John Tummons, Ph.D., CHE, formed CCO, Inc. in 1993. Originally called Comp Care of the Ozarks, Inc., Dr. Tummons formed the company to address skyrocketing workers’ compensation costs faced by businesses in Missouri. Drawing on his more-than twenty-five years senior health care experience, he created the first true Preferred Provider Organization in southwest Missouri. In 1996 as the business’ scope extended beyond the Ozarks and new services were added, including a PPO for health plans, Dr. Tummons renamed the business CCO, Inc. to reflect the expanded vision. Today CCO, Inc. serves employers and their more than 250,000 employees in numerous states with its network of more than 14,000 quality medical providers. |
